Lessons to be Learned From the COVID-19 Pandemic

In just a few weeks, life all over the world has changed drastically. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many of us to stay at home and keep a safe distance from our family and friends to lessen the risks of coronavirus infection. This pandemic has given birth to death, horrible illness, and lots of other negative outcomes. But, in the middle of this crisis, there are some important lessons to be learned.

1. The importance of talking to family and friends.

The lockdown and quarantine hampered our usual routines. Several people are locked alone inside their own apartments with no one else to talk to. If you are feeling alone and lonely, reach out to your loved ones. The most effective way to combat sadness is to regularly talk to your family and friends through video chat or mobile phone. Deep, long conversations will surely help you get through this difficult time.  This pandemic has helped us learn to value our close relationships more and to keep them a priority in our lives.

2. Appreciate nature.

Avoid close contact with other people, but do enjoy nature. A much deeper, better relationship with nature can result in a more relaxed and peaceful state of mind. It doesn’t matter if you have access to a vast outdoor space or not. Just glance out of the window, and admire the beauty of the skies and trees. Remember how much nature helps you stay grounded. Make room for staying in touch with nature in your daily schedule, even after this is all over.

3. Learn how to love yourself more.

Sometimes, it’s okay to be alone. If you are an extrovert, you might find this extremely difficult. The thing is, by being alone, you can learn more about yourself. Get to know yourself more by engaging in new hobbies. Keep yourself busy at home! Nourish your body and mind.

4. The significance of maintaining proper hygiene.

Whether or not there is a pandemic, having good general hygiene is so important. Even after this health crisis, make proper handwashing a habit. You can always bring a small bottle of alcohol with you, but hand washing is still the best way to get rid of viruses, COVID-19 or not.

5. The huge convenience of working from home.

During this health crisis, we realized that it’s completely possible for us to do our jobs from the comforts of our own home. Tasks can be accomplished remotely and efficiently as long we have access to computers, the internet, and other reliable equipment. The online world is all about convenience!

6. Everyone must have access to the internet.

Believe it or not, millions of people all over the world, most especially in developing countries, still don’t have access to the online world. During this difficult time, the internet is the most effective, if not the only avenue to reach out to colleagues, friends, and family anytime we want.

7. Health is wealth–no matter how young you are.

You may be young and strong, but you still need to look after yourself during this pandemic. We are not just talking about physical health here! Because of what’s happening around us, plenty of people are dealing with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Aside from eating healthily, look for new ways to relax! Do some home exercises, meditate, or do yoga. See to it that you are mentally and emotionally healthy as well.  Remember to put your health as a priority even after COVID-19 has passed and life is back to normal.

8. Doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals and frontliners deserve more.

Health workers are the ones working night and day to save the world from COVID-19. At the same time, several scientists all over the world are rushing to develop a vaccine for COVID-19. We know that they deserve so much more, in terms of salary and recognition. The same goes for supermarket personnel, policemen, and utility workers.  Be sure to give thanks to all first responders.
